Rediagnosing the Oceans

We created a short film (written by Randy Olson and Jeremy Jackson, directed by Randy Olson) which presents a medical analogy to illustrate the importance of historical perspective. Similar to the woman in the film, life in the oceans is in a state of crisis. We need new approaches of treatment to avoid irreparable losses.

The good news is that most species are still present in sufficient numbers for successful restoration with proper management. This optimism is in stark contrast with terrestrial ecosystems where many or most of the large animals and other key species are already extinct.
